Frequently asked questions

How does Verb listen to conversations?

Verb uses your device's microphone to record audio. On iPhone, it listens in the background so you can use other apps. On Mac, it captures system audio from Zoom and other meeting apps using a virtual audio driver.

Is my data secure?

Yes. All recordings are encrypted in transit and at rest. Audio is processed by Deepgram for transcription and OpenAI for insights — neither retains your data after processing. See our privacy policy for full details.

Can I delete my recordings?

Absolutely. You can delete individual recordings, events, contacts, or your entire account at any time. Deletion is permanent and irreversible — the audio, transcript, and related content are removed from our systems. Separately, recorded audio is cleaned up automatically even if you do nothing: raw audio segments within 28 days and full conversation recordings within 30 days. Your transcripts and insights stay until you delete them.

Do I need to tell people I'm recording?

Laws regarding recording consent vary by location. In many places, you need consent from all parties being recorded. It's your responsibility to comply with applicable laws in your jurisdiction. We recommend always informing participants.

How do I use the Apple Watch app?

The Watch listens on its own. Tap once on your wrist and Verb hears the room through the Watch's built-in microphone, relaying the audio to your iPhone as it goes, so your phone can stay in your pocket or bag. You can also start and stop a session already running on your phone from the Watch.

How long can Verb listen?

For hours. Verb is built to listen for a long time and tells one conversation from the next as it goes, so it suits back-to-back meetings or a day at a conference. It uses very little power while listening, so it will not drain your battery.

What happens if no one is talking for a while?

Using proprietary algorithms, Verb listens efficiently in the background over long periods of time. If no audio is detected for an extended period, iOS may halt the app. Prior to this happening, Verb will attempt to send you a notification prompting you to bring the app back to the foreground so it can keep listening.
